Ahhh the smell of old gas....

So having bought a few cars that have sat around I have a procedure I kinda follow. Start at the fuel tank and work forward. I don't even WANT it to run on whatever is in there, it is too easy to kill injectors, or block a fuel line. So I remove the pump/level indicator, wow that is nasty. The old pump is all gummed up, as are the hard lines that exit the tank, cant even blow 50psi air through them. The stuff coming out of the tank could hardly be called gasoline. So I drain all the fuel out into a drain pan(be nice to the environment and all) and put into a jug to go to the track for disposal. Then I roll the car out of the garage and jack up the drivers side as high as I can, about 20 inches. The pump hole is on passenger side, so I just put my high pressure water hose in there and let it route around, all kinds of depsoits come out, as well as the old sock for the pickup, and some loose change(12cents). Don't ask, cuz I can't even make up an answer for that. So now the tank is drying, aided by a fan blowing down the fill tube. I smell all nasty too. Maybe it will run un-aided this weekend.
